ETH co-founder wants interoperability with China’s crypto

EthereumThe co-founder of Ethereum Joseph Lubin has stated he hopes China’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) will permit interoperability with public permissionless blockchains, including Ethereum.

Lubin commented during an interview with Forbes published over the weekend: “I assume it is going to be exactly what Chinese leadership thinks is most beneficial to Chinese leadership. Hopefully that’s also open and we can interoperate with it, but I don’t know.”

Moreover, reports Coin Telegraph, Lubin went on to add that he would like to see further participation from China within the Ethereum ecosystem. He referred to the Belt and Road blockchain-based commerce platform, saying it utilises one of the “weaker technologies” in comparison to public blockchains like Ethereum.

He stated: “I would love to help China get expert in Ethereum technology. One reason is if the Belt and Road Initiative uses one of the weaker technologies and it sort of mandates that those networks be built in that technology, maybe it won’t be as interoperable. But the main idea is that Ethereum is the strongest of the blockchain technologies and it’s a very positive virus to implant in people’s minds.”

The Ethereum co-founder added that he forecasts China will continue to undermine the status of the U.S. dollar as the world reserve currency.

However, he is also of the opinion that China’s CBDC will only have a minimal impact in this regard, adding that Russia and China are striving to conduct business without using the U.S. dollar.

Lubin said: “There are lots of reasons why American influence is shrinking and will probably continue to shrink. That may not be a bad thing but in some ways, it’ll be a bad thing. China’s particular cryptocurrency I don’t think is a major factor.”
