Bitcoin Argentina taking crypto to schools

19 May 2022

Bitcoin Argentina – dedicated to the growth of Bitcoin and crypto throughout the country – is taking Bitcoin education to high schools.

The NGO’s project, known as “Schools and Bitcoin” is aimed at teaching students about the relevance of the world’s largest cryptocurrency and the difference between crypto and traditional fiat currencies.

Argentina has one of the highest cryptocurrency adoption rates in Latin America, according to Chainalysis data. Indeed, a large number of the population has turned to Bitcoin and crypto due to inflation and exchange controls reducing purchasing power.

As such, Bitcoin Argentina’s objective is to boost the BTC ecosystem in the country via this learning project in high schools.

The initiative was launched in collaboration with humanitarian initiative Built with Bitcoin, and continues on from a previous pilot project which sparked great enthusiasm amongst students in Argentina, according to Jimena Vallone of Bitcoin Argentina.

“There is a desire to innovate, to know what is happening with Bitcoin and blockchain, and to train and learn. All this was the starting point to start thinking about the project, which begins with 40 schools, but we hope to have a larger number,” she stated.

“Schools and Bitcoin” aims to reach more than 4,000 high school students. The classes and content of the course will be adapted to each region: “The content used will be varied, changing with each school. Argentina is a diverse country, so it is necessary to think about each context when introducing the material,” Vallone went on to say.

Yet the core will remain the same, aiming to teach students about Bitcoin’s “transparent, open, inclusive, traceable and secure” characteristics. This is the first initiative of this type in Latin America, Bitcoin.com reports. Other countries including Brazil and Venezuela are also very crypto active.
