Miami International Airport now has its first Bitcoin ATM.
Bitcoin ATM company, Bitstop installed one of its machines located in concourse G next to gate 16 in Miami airport, allowing customers to purchase Bitcoin for cash.
Within a press release published on Tuesday, Bitstop said the location of the Bitcoin ATM is strategic, as Miami International Airport is the third-busiest in the United States in terms of passenger traffic.
In addition, it is also “the largest gateway between the U.S. and Latin America and is one of the largest airline hubs in the United States,” according to the announcement.
The co-founder and chief strategy officer of Bitstop, Doug Carrillo states that Bitcoin is extremely useful for travellers: “We’re excited to be working with Miami International Airport on this historic deal. More and more people prefer to travel with Bitcoin instead of cash for convenience and security. Miami International Airport is a perfect place for our customers to conveniently exchange their dollars for Bitcoin and vice versa when traveling domestically or abroad.”
Furthermore, Bitstop affirmed this latest ATM in Miami airport is the company’s 130th machine in the U.S., and the objective is to reach 500 Bitcoin ATMs installed across the globe by the end of next year.
The press release states: “Using Bitcoin ATMs has become one of the easiest ways to conveniently buy or sell small amounts of Bitcoin for cash.”
As reported by Coin Telegraph back in June, at that time the total number of Bitcoin ATMs around the world had reached 5,000 for the first time.
The report said: “There are now 5,006 standalone BTMs in around 90 countries, where cryptocurrency users can buy or sell Bitcoin. Some machines offer both services simultaneously.
“The data caps a protracted period of growth in the BTM sector, with the U.S. leading the trend as more and more locations and formats appear.”
At the time of writing, there are 5,756 Bitcoin ATM’s worldwide.
